Recluse Horror #59 - 2AM: The Smiling Man (2013)

Sam can't breathe in tonight's episode of Recluse Horror! In this episode, Sam and The Recluse discuss a short film from Michael Evans (Whose work Rec reviewed previously in The Landscape) based on an apparently true story from Reddit. Rec gets super tired as it nears the end of her work week. Fun times.

Recluse Horror #58 - Occupied (2015)

There's more than meets the eye--or doesn't meet the eye--in the film reviewed on tonight's Recluse Horror! Today, Sam and The Recluse discuss the surprising thoughtfulness and artfulness of Occupied, a short film hosted through Crypt TV.

Also discussed, once again, is how annoying peoples' main criticism of short films is and the effect that has on their user ratings and, since this is a horror podcast, this descends into a lengthy tangent about the true horror movies, romcoms. Ever wondered what The Recluse's top three romcoms are? Sort of find out in this episode!

Recluse Horror #57 - Autumn (2017) I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016)

A sleepy solo episode awaits! In tonight's episode, The Recluse discusses vampire short film Autumn and the gorgeous, atmospheric I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (which your sleepy host refers to as  I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives Inside the House because she's very sleepy). Rec also talks about her excitement about writer-director Osgood Perkins in general and her love of mood and tone in filmmaking.

The Recluse doesn't even know what episode this is on tonight's episode of Recluse Horror! Despite her intro, this IS the fifty-fifth episode, and today, the hosts speak about all three Cloverfield movies, comparing and contrasting their different styles and plots. Which one is the best? Do the hosts think ANY of them are good? Kinda, sorta find out in tonight's episode as Sam tries to take over both the podcast AND the fourth Cloverfield movie in one ambitious conversation!

Recluse Horror #52 - The Moonlight Man (2016) The Moonlight Man 2 (2017)

Sam is back in action in this episode of Recluse Horror! As suggested before, The Recluse asked Sam to watch both the first and second Moonlight Man short films, and as Rec's first review was necessarily rushed, the hosts spend this review talking about both entries into the series. Also discussed in the episode is Sam's controversial distraction from his podcasting duties.

The Recluse is solo again for tonight's episode of Recluse Horror! Today, she discusses the short film Live Alone (2015) and one of the all around worst movies she's ever reviewed, Blood Valley: Seed's Revenge (2014), also known as Seed 2. The Recluse also briefly talks about notorious writer-director Uwe Boll and the reason we may not see Sam for a few more episodes.

Recluse Horror #50 - The Moonlight Man (2016)

Due to The Recluse's noisy roommates, the Recluse Horror Fiftieth Episode Spectacular is not very spectacular and also easily the shortest episode and contains no special surprises! Having a short recording window, The Recluse talks only about one movie which is also probably the shortest short she's ever reviewed, The Moonlight Man by Donny Donahue.

In case there weren't enough apologies for the short episode in the actual episode, Rec would like to apologize once more for the rushed episode. Reviews should be given with more care than was possible today.

Recluse Horror #48 - Larry (2017) Satanic (2016)

The short film marathon continues as Sam and The Recluse discuss another superb film, Jacob Chase's Larry (2017), in tonight's episode of Recluse Horror! Because The Recluse is a nerd, she can't help but take a brief interlude in the middle of the review to talk about her love of short horror films and vaguely share some short horror news. Following that, Sam and Rec talk about Satanic (2016), a movie mostly about bickering and squabbling and pentagrams that almost turns into a horror movie at one point. The episode ends with a conversation about sharks. Good rock talk.

It's garbage time for Sam and Rec in tonight's episode of Recluse Horror! Forgoing Foreign Friday as previously mentioned as a possibility, the fatigued hosts discuss the simple yet impressive short film Vanilla Cake followed by the worst Netflix Original either of the hosts has ever seen, Clinical. The Recluse discusses the importance of proper mental health treatment and somehow makes it through two reviews, which was definitely a feat, tonight.

Recluse Horror #46 - Foreign... Thursday? Bobo (2016) Angel Egg (1985)

Sam and The Recluse sort of accidentally do a Foreign Thursday, and they're sticking to it. (There still may be a Foreign Friday tomorrow. It's all undecided.) The hosts start off with a short Pakistani horror film and probably the best one The Recluse has seen through Screamfest's channel, followed by a moody, mysterious, and(nearly) lost anime by the director of Ghost in the Shell, Angel's Egg. The Recluse speaks about her lack of faith and her feelings on that subject in her own life as well as touching on why a person with depression might be drawn to sad movies, and, by extension, all melancholy media.

Recluse Horror #45 Don't Stare (2017) III - The Ritual (2015)

The Recluse and Sam entirely forgot to mention or watch anything related to Valentine's Day, because who cares. Recluse Horror #44 - One Please (2014) Let's Be Evil (2016)

A strange, giddy energy runs through the exhausted hosts tonight in this episode of Recluse Horror! While discussing the fascinating world of Crypt TV's One Please, the hosts entirely forget to talk about the symbolism attached to the film, yet at the end of the show, Sam addresses a recent scandal with such poise and tact that one might think it was a prepared statement, which it was not. Recluse Horror #43 - Kill Me Now (2012) The Stuff (1985)

The Recluse shows a strange solidarity with comedians, of all people, in tonight's accidentally horror comedy themed episode of Recluse Horror! In trying to discuss Michael Swaim's independent horror comedy, Kill Me Now, Sam and Rec delve into the topic of the layoffs of some of Cracked's most talented writers and performers, including an impassioned plea on their behalf for all two of our listeners.

The movie is, in fact, discussed at some point, if mostly only so that Rec has a reason to talk about how there can only be one, and mention the half naked Swaim hanging around for half of the movie an uncomfortable number of times (see: lady-creep. It's been in the show notes almost every episode). Following that, the pair shake it off and move on to the joyfully ridiculous The Stuff. What is The Stuff? We may never know.

Recluse Horror #42 - Dead Eyes Watching (2017) Hisss (2010)

In this episode, The Recluse discusses yet another very modestly budgeted (and surprisingly decent) movie called Dead Eyes Watching. In the second half, she touches on the tragic tale of the theft of a movie from its director in Hisss and the effects it had on the quality of the movie the world was given instead, taking a detour in the middle to discuss another tale of how movies can go wrong while talking about the documentary, Lost in La Mancha.

Recluse Horror #40 - Foreign Friday! Transfert (2008) The Transfiguration (2016)

The Recluse gets excited about vampire movies in this episode of Recluse Horror! The episode begins with a review of a unique 48-hour short film project from France, Transfert (2008). Riding on the back of that film, The Recluse makes several suggestions, briefly opines about teenage casual drinkers, and decides on the fly to go over her review of The Transfiguration in full. Other suggestions were French feature length Raw (2016) and George Romero's vampire masterpiece, Martin (1978). WATCH ALL OF THEM.

Recluse Horror begins with some marginally relevant true crime news in tonight's episode, because The Recluse is a cheerful, happy-go-lucky person if nothing else. Following that, Sam and Rec discuss the shockingly un-sexploitative The Snake Woman and the most boring haunting movie out of New Zealand (hopefully), The Dead Room. The Recluse asks for recommendations and freaks out and halts the conversation over a little-known movie that has a cast member she was friendly with a lifetime ago that definitely doesn't remember she exists.
