Recluse Horror #31 - The Landscape (2013) The Similars (2015)

The Recluse shows off her poor time management skills in tonight's episode of Recluse Horror, managing to only watch a short film and still end up having to record the episode while her ears were still ringing from Sam's noisy bands. In this episode, The Recluse discusses Michael Evans' short film The Landscape and talks around one of her favorite movies from the entire project, The Similars while still managing to say almost nothing about it.

Recluse Horror #29 - The Birch (2016) The Jester (2016) The Jester: Chapter 2 (2017)

In tonight's episode of Recluse Horror, The Recluse addresses the colossal oversight regarding her review of Don't Move (2013), taking the opportunity to review director Anthony Melton and Bloody Cuts Films short film The Birch. Taking the opportunity to talk about other great short films, Sam and Rec discuss The Jester Chapters 1 and 2 (while still coming back to talk about The Birch again through most of those reviews).

The Recluse explains how a person can become trauma-bonded to a movie with an example from her own life, and Sam spends much of the episode trying to find sponsorship (again) the exact wrong way. The episode concludes with Sam and The Recluse coming together to explain why IMDB ratings are bogus and pondering the most preposterously common criticism of short films.

The return of Sam! Sam is back to talk about the usually highly-praised Gothic horror movie, The Changeling, and the artful South Korean mystery/thriller/horror/drama that is The Silenced. The Recluse waxes about the higher purpose of some genre fiction and despairs over the loss of one of the best horror series in years that you never watched.

Tonight, The Recluse reviews a short film from Japan with involvement from Guillermo del Toro, following it up with a well underrated film called Nightlight. The Recluse talks about the one thing that everyone who travels inevitably does and both hosts go back and fourth trying to quantify and decide upon their feelings for one of the movies.

Recluse Horror #23 - Don't Move (2013) Strange Blood (2015)

In tonight's episode of Recluse Horror, Sam and The Recluse debate the appeal of Ouija-based summonings as it would apply to real life, their own personal experiences with Ouija boards, and the trope associated with the novelty game in horror movies, eventually getting into the short film Don't Move by Bloody Cuts Films. In the second half, The Recluse rants about the movie that has made her the most angry of all of the films she's watched in the 290 days of doing this project, Strange Blood.

The Recluse works through a bit more of her emotional scarring surrounding The Fantastic Mr. Schwartzman and has a visceral reaction to seeing the face of one of the actors from Zombeavers. Recluse Horror #21 - The Call of Cthulhu (2005) The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)

Silent Sunday lives! Well, at least for tonight. In this episode, The Recluse and Sam discuss two works of fiction whose names are always mispronounced, The Call of Cthulhu and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Ever wondered the correct pronunciation of Cthulhu? The Recluse will tell you (and then continue to use the more common pronunciations for the rest of the episode), even though the filmmakers behind this 2005 adaptation of the book took the coward's way out of pissing people off by choosing to make it as a silent film.

Also discussed is the accuracy of Dracula adaptations to stage and film, fog effects, German Expressionism, sexy string beans, and Robert Smith from The Cure.

Recluse Horror #20 - The Beast of Yucca Flats (1961) Pod (2015)

A curious entry from what is claimed to be the sixties starts off tonight's episode with Sam and The Recluse's review of The Beast of Yucca Flats. The Recluse explains the reasoning behind her particular soft spot for Tor Johnson, attempts to puzzle out the stranger aspects of the film, and shares a quote about the movie's director from Mystery Science Theatre 3000's Kevin Murphy.

And the debate is lively once again in tonight's addition to the Keatingverse Saga with Sam and Rec's review of Pod! Why does Sam prefer Darling to Pod? Why does Rec prefer Pod to Darling? What is the one thing that makes this movie stick out to The Recluse? Why does she seem fixated on the director? Recluse Horror # 17 - The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015) Darling (2015)

The knives are out in this episode of Recluse Horror, wherein Sam and The Recluse squabble over which of a director's movies are the least bad, assigning different sliding scales to the quality of the pieces in question. The Recluse rants about stealing and misusing material from better filmmakers and names Osgood Perkins as one of the emerging writer-directors that excites her the most.

Sam and Rec both lament the annoyance of watching a movie for the first time under the wrong circumstances and the affect this can have on developing a fair opinion. Sam also makes a suggestion for the new summer blockbuster versus film you never knew you wanted.

Recluse Horror #16 - Drag Me to Hell (2009) I Am Not a Serial Killer (2016)

In this episode, Sam and The Recluse discuss what happens when the audience isn't in on your joke with Drag Me to Hell and the brilliant, subtle ways that the filmmakers behind I Am Not a Serial Killer try to put you into the mind of their main character that, sadly, may have been lost on general audiences. The Recluse, universally known for being on top of her game and incessantly informative, also momentarily confuses the title of a Sam Raimi film for that of a long-running anime series.

Turns out, it was based on a Creepypasta, so she also read that! In addition to failing at finding a movie, she also failed at audio recording in various ways, and her Audacity appears to be haunted! Tonight, The Recluse and semi-permanent co-host Sam discuss Stephen King, his novels and their adaptations, and the fundamental problem with adapting novels like Thinner and The Langoliers during the nineties. The Recluse struggles to explain her interpretation of what gets lost in translation between the novels and the films without preparing her remarks in advance and why you should never read abridged copies of Stephen King's work.

Tired hosts make for tangents inside of tangents once again in tonight's thrilling Foreign Friday edition of Recluse Horror!

Listen well as The Recluse and her frequent guest Sam spend seven minutes delving into the awe-inspiring movie titles and character names of Phantom of the Theatre's Simon Yam!

Hear The Recluse grinning through the microphone while taking a three-plus minute detour to talk about Creep director Patrick Brice's other creepy (and fantastic) movie The Overnight (Stop calling The Recluse a lady-creep, she can hear you through the internet) and its cast, pausing briefly to reflect on her deep psychological scarring surrounding Jason Schwartzman after watching Slackers while her brain was still developing (she's over it. She's totally a fan, now.) while being interrupted from her reveries by a botched unpaid paid Fox plug by Sam.

Sam gives The Man Who Laughs "hecka stars" and The Recluse demands a sequel to All Cheerleaders Die several times.
